Excellent playerPosted onAfter years with AirPlay low end devices connected to my analog receiver, the PowerNode is the best upgrade for stereo in my relatively small home and living room. Paired with Pulse Sub+ and my beloved ScanDyno Mini Pods it’s a slick and compacted hifi - just how I like it!
I mostly stream music via AppleMusic, flip vinyls and watch TV. -
Excellent soundPosted onFrom somewhere around 2013 I had a NAD C390DD, like the N331 a Direct Digital design.
As far as I understand it, the digital input signal in PCM is recalculated tot PWM, applying al kinds of DSP in the digital domain. The PWM directly controls the power transistors, thereby skipping the A/D conversion, preamplifying, and translating the analogue signal to PWM in the class D power amps, as Hybrid Digital works.
The result of DD is a very clean sound, with completely clear treble. But the problem is feedback is nog possible, as it is in HD. The result was that dynamics was not the C390DD strongest point.
After the C390DD failed, I bought a Powernode N330. It had a more dynamic, bigger sound then the NAD, but lacked some detail and the treble was a little rough. Still I could live with it’s sound, and I loved the user friendliness in its compact, affordable enclosure, but I missed that pure crystalline sound the NAD gave me.
Since a week I have replaced the N330 with this new N331. For me it is perfect!
Back is the lovely clear refinement coming from DD, but dynamics are somehow not restrained anymore.
I do not know how Bluesound overcame the restrictions of DD, nor do I know if the N331 works with all loudspeakers.
But the combination with my Harbeth P3ESRs is a marriage made in heaven, for me it is perfect!
And still in a compact, lovely enclosure, user friendly as ever. And for a very reasonable price IMO.
Extra is a 3th channel for a centre speaker (not used by me at the moment) and in a future update DIRAC support wil be added, in which I am interested.
But for now, for me the N331 is already all I need, keeper! -
The perfect combination!Posted onI can't express enough how happy and satisfied I am with my Powernode. And to complete my sound experience I bough the Dali-12 headphones and it sounds heavenly. Highly recommended!!
