The Early Days
At its launch, the NODE was one of the few products of its kind, positioning itself as a trailblazer in the industry. Signaling a new era for Bluesound, the NODE was designed to break away from conventional patterns of music streaming. Before the emergence of Bluesound and BluOS, there were only a handful of devices that allowed users to stream music from the phone or computer. However, with the introduction of the NODE and the BluOS platform, a transformative shift occurred. The NODE now allowed users to conveniently stream music from the comfort of their homes.
NODE (N100): Pioneering Streaming Services
Bluesound's NODE (N100) emerged as a pioneer in high-res music streamers, targeting both hi-fi enthusiasts and a new market of music lovers disconnected from the hi-fi past. Focused on supporting hi-fi dealers left behind by other products, the NODE sought to revitalize an industry in decline by linking it to the future of streaming services. Its controversial industrial design, loved or hated, aimed to make a statement and capture attention. The original NODE, introduced with BluOS 1.0.3, set the stage for user-friendly updates, expanded music services, and brought forth innovative features like Bluetooth functionality through a USB adapter.
NODE 2: Improving on the Last
Building on the success of the NODE, the brand pivoted to a new industrial design with NODE 2—a slim, clean, and easy-to-use device with enhanced flexibility and top-tier audio quality. This evolution aligned with Bluesound's commitment to good sound and sensible design, emphasizing a dedication to hi-res audio and a mission to convince the industry to prioritize audio performance. Addressing consumer feedback, NODE 2 was born, allowing for both optical and coaxial outputs and an auxiliary input.
NODE 2i: Introducing AirPlay 2
Following Apple's announcement of AirPlay 2, Bluesound ushered in a new iteration of the NODE —the NODE 2i—which offered AirPlay 2 compatibility as well as a unintentional redesigns that not only enhanced sound quality but allowed users greater flexibility and freedom for streaming. Bluesound was also among the few brands mentioned at a major Apple conference, signifying a breakthrough for users and an expanded customer base.
NODE (N130): The Next Generation
In 2021, the NODE (N130) was introduced, bringing along substantial improvements, including enhanced signal-to-noise ratios and the integration of a proximity sensor for more elegant control. This latest iteration unveiled a fresh audio architecture, introducing preset buttons that allowed users quick access to their favorite playlists and settings. Unlike its predecessor, it featured a full-size glass top panel and a user-friendly volume slider. The model also incorporated a new differential DAC design, processor, and a sophisticated Matte Satin paint finish, marking the beginning of a new generation. With the addition of presets, practical proximity sensing, and user-friendly enhancements, the NODE set a new standard in audio technology, epitomizing both innovation and style.
NODE X (N131): A Decade of Excellence
The NODE X introduced a significant upgrade by incorporating the same high-quality DAC found in the NAD C 658 [hyperlink to product page]. Notably, this model enhanced the headphone amplifier for a more immersive audio experience. In celebration of Bluesound's 10-year anniversary, the NODE X emerged as a special edition wireless multi-room streamer, boasting a supercharged ESS SABRE® DAC, a built-in THX AAA headphone amp, and a sleek silver metallic finish. Positioned as a gateway to the next decade of HiFi, the NODE X signified a new era in audio technology and a decade of excellence.
NODE NANO, NODE ICON, NODE (N132): The Future of Streaming
